02 Dec Big Indian New York Author Portrait | Alexander Chee
I have been fortunate to have the opportunity to photograph authors for the book section of Chronogram Magazine and this shoot was another in this series of shoots that I have really enjoyed. The assignment this month was to photograph Alexander Chee author of The Queen of the Night. I got the address from Alexander and drove to his place out in the middle of woods, have I ever mentioned how much I love GPS. When I got there the writer was already in the process of interviewing Alexander and I have to say it was fascinating to be the proverbial fly on the wall. I’m pretty much interested in the behind the scenes of anything. Love to hear how ideas are formed and what influences played what part in the big picture. While listening to what sounded like a good NPR interview I looked around and mentally set up 2-3 shots. Janet Hamill the interviewer/writer was kind enough to allow me to grab Alexander away for photo time and we shot 3 images. I was very happy with the images and David Perry’s layout in the magazine. They only ran one of the shots, but I wanted show the rest off, so here they are. Thanks Chronogram, and thank you Alexander.
